about
I’m Katharine Ng, a postdoctoral scholar in KC Huang and Justin Sonnenburg’s labs at Stanford University. In my research at Stanford, I study the gut microbiota, the bacteria that live in our intestines, and how they live as a community and weather disasters like antibiotic treatments.
Katechol is a nickname my friend Shadi gave me in college. Catecholamines (which include dopamine and epinephrine) are chemical compounds that contain catechols. They’re pretty neat!
Besides doing research, I love to draw and create animations of science and of doing science! Research is sometimes as much of an art as it is a science, so why not draw and animate the ups and downs?
